Hydrated lime
Hydrated lime has the molecular formula of calcium hydroxide, which is a chemical substance, and it is known as hydrated lime. This material comes from limestone and it is used in various industries such as construction industry, iron smelting, water and sewage treatment, food, etc.
Hydrated lime has the property of being alkaline; Because this material is produced as a result of reaction with water and slaked lime, which are made in the hydration system. Hydrated lime has different concentrations and there are two forms of magnesium and calcium, which depends on the type of primary hydrated lime, which is ordinary or dolomitic.
Production of hydrated lime
In general, hydrated means juicy, and for this reason, this material is also called hydrated lime. Now you may have a question about how hydrated lime is produced? At first, limestone is extracted from its mines, and then to separate the carbon dioxide in it, this lime is placed in special lime kilns, which have a very high temperature.
After removing this material from the lime kiln, quicklime is produced, which has a calcium oxide formulation. Quicklime is a very unstable material and therefore strongly absorbs moisture and water. This material blooms when it absorbs water. In lime factories, they use the hydration system on the furnace to produce ahem.
To use this device, baked lime is inserted into it and boiling water steam is blown into it, which has a temperature of about 300 degrees Celsius. In this case, slaked lime is produced, which has more than 90% quality. In this case, we have a substance that is in powder form and it is turned into a one-hand product by means of a grinder. In order to bloom the lime, the stone is baked, which is done in a lime kiln. They use the same method to make dolomite. In the following section, we have given you the formulas for the production of hydrated lime:
CaO.MgO + 2 H2O = Ca(OH)2. Mg(OH)2
When we observe the above equations, we conclude that hydrated lime is produced using limestone and dolomite. Limestone is used in many industries; Because these stones are more pure. Quicklime is very unstable and because it is exothermic, it can cause water to boil. For this reason, hydrated lime is used in many industries.
Applications and uses of hydrated lime
Hydrated lime and quicklime each have their own uses and this type of lime is used to purify drinking water, which has the role of coagulant, and its other uses include its efficiency in producing chemicals, correcting the acidity of acidic soil, Infectious waste disposal, agriculture, edible lime, iron smelting, mortar and concrete production, etc. In the following, we will explain to you some of the most important applications of hydrated lime
In order to separate lignin in the paper production process, sodium hydroxide must be used, which is why calcium hydroxide is used for this material. Hydrated lime can convert sodium carbonate into calcium carbonate and calcium hydroxide, which can be recycled.
Hydrated lime is also used for water purification; Because this substance is a coagulant and can remove excess substances in water. In fact, in all water treatment areas, this substance is used, which is also used as a disinfectant in many cases.
As you know, hydrated lime is very resistant and durable and does not break, crack or freeze. For this reason, lime is used to produce asphalt, which can greatly increase its resistance
Lime is used to disinfect the livestock breeding environment and usually; Because in this environment, the growth of all kinds of fungi, viruses and viruses is very high, and it is possible to prevent these types of bacteria on the walls and various surfaces.
